Flynn arrived from the pound in mid-July without a settled name and visibly underweight. A veterinary check, several days of observation and his consistently affectionate, dog-friendly behaviour allowed the rescue to match him carefully; on 19 July he left as Stanley to join Ronnie and his new family.
From an unnamed pound dog to Stanley
The first priority was not adoption publicity but food, rest and a full health check. Once cleared by the vet, the young Saluki-type dog showed that he could walk politely, keep his kennel clean and greet people with a relaxed, sociable manner.
Those observations gave the rescue a much clearer picture of the home he needed. The chosen family could introduce him to Ronnie gradually, give him room to recover physically and include him in everyday life without expecting him to cope with everything at once.
A relationship allowed to develop
Stanley and Ronnie began with two gentle walks before spending time together in the garden and house. The family watched their body language, kept the pace calm and gave both dogs room to move away rather than trying to force instant closeness.
The early update was encouraging: the pair appeared comfortable, and Stanley was able to explore without becoming overwhelmed. That measured start gave the relationship a stronger foundation than a single excited greeting.
The ordinary signs of feeling safe
Stanley soon chose his cosy bed and rolled over for tummy rubs when family members passed. Resting openly, seeking contact and moving around the home with a loose body were useful signs that he was beginning to understand the new setting.
His days will remain simple while the household routine becomes familiar: manageable walks, quiet sleep, individual attention and supervised time with Ronnie.
Included in the family plan
Stanley is not being treated as an addition who stays behind when life gets busy. His family hope to include him in campervan holidays once he is comfortable with travel and the home routine is established.
The adoption has given him a new name, a canine companion and a place in the family’s plans. For now, the priority is letting Stanley and Ronnie build that life one calm day at a time.
