Dawn Cooke founded Congleton Dog Rescue on 21 August 2025 to give dogs of all breeds time for assessment, care and an individual match rather than treating rehoming as a quick handover.

Experience extended beyond one breed
Dawn brought experience assessing and rehoming Dobermanns through Adopt a Rescue Dobermann UK. That work showed how behaviour changes after decompression, why medical information matters and how much honest guidance families need before adoption.
Congleton Dog Rescue applied the same careful approach to dogs of all breeds in and around the local community.
The operating model
Country Kennels & Daycare in Swettenham became the professional care base. Foster homes added information about household behaviour, while volunteer home checkers compared proposed homes with the individual dog’s needs.
Dawn manages the rescue voluntarily. Public support contributes to direct care and the practical work required to assess and rehome dogs.
Legal status
Congleton Dog Rescue operates independently and is not a registered charity. That factual position is separate from future ambitions and does not change the adoption checks or rescue backup provided through its agreements.
What the early milestones established
Bonya’s first rehome demonstrated the matching process. The website created one controlled place for dog profiles and guidance, while the £5,000 milestone showed sustained local backing during the first months.
