Woody was collected on 23 June 2026 as one of two dogs needing immediate rescue support. Early observations described a frightened dog who needed quiet handling and time to decompress; after assessment he moved to a patient Stoke-on-Trent family on 5 July.
What came before the adoption photograph
The successful handover followed nearly two weeks of watching how Woody ate, rested, approached people and recovered from unfamiliar situations. The aim was to identify a home that would not treat nervousness as disobedience or try to accelerate his confidence for the sake of appearances.
A customer at Jollyes bought him a toy shortly before the move. It became a cheerful detail in the adoption-day photographs, but the more important part of the match was a family willing to keep his first days quiet and predictable.
A familiar object on an unfamiliar day
The gift travelled with Woody on adoption day, giving the family something positive to use as he explored. More importantly, they kept the environment quiet and allowed him to choose between resting, investigating and approaching people.
He began using the bed provided, moved around the home with less hesitation and accepted affection without being crowded.
Progress shown through behaviour
Woody’s first days were not judged by the number of places visited. The useful signs were that he could eat, sleep, recover after a new sound and return to family members for contact.
Short walks and a consistent household rhythm helped him understand what would happen next.
The latest position
By the 10 July update, Woody was becoming more comfortable in the home and showing more of his character. His family will keep new experiences manageable while that security strengthens, with the rescue able to stay in touch because he remains relatively close.
